Visit to South Street

Gippsland Times 14 October 1948

Sale Town Band Making History

The Sale Town Band, after a fine record in Gippsland district competitions will face open classes for the first time when they reach South Street at the end of the month. It will be the first occasion that the Sale Band has ever visited South Street and every supporter wishes the members success in the venture. The Band will leave Sale on October 23rd and be away for about ten days.

During the past few months the Band, under the direction of Bandmaster J. McLean has been practicing assiduously and has reached a high standard. Should they be successful it will be a high honour to the town.

The fact that the Band has reached a standard sufficiently high to be able to compete, speaks volumes for the work of the committee and the ladies. The ladies deserve high tribute because of the work they have carried out to secure funds for the Band over the past year.

Owing to the fact that the Band will be away it has been decided to hold the usual community, singing night on Sunday next instead of the following Sunday. An at tractive programme has been arranged, and it is likely that there will be a large attendance. This will show the Band that the people of Sale are appreciative of a work the bandsmen and the committee are doing.
