The largest draft of Second AIF recruits to have been formed in Area 37 left Sale by the afternoon train on Wednesday, 22nd May. Each member of the draft was a serving member of either the 13/19th Light Horse Regiment, or the 37th Battalion.
A large crowd gathered at the rail way station to wish the volunteers God speed. The entraining of the men was carried out amidst scenes of great enthusiasm, and to the accompaniment of lively tunes provided by the Sale Town Band.
Representative citizens made short speeches of farewell, and the ladies' committee of the Sale Branch of the War Service Comforts Fund demonstrated in a practical manner how they intend looking after the comfort of our serving men. The ladies provided afternoon tea for the whole draft and a pair of hand-knitted socks, and a supply of cigarettes for each member with the exception of the Traralgon men who were provided for in a like manner on the arrival of the train at Traralgon by their own committee.
