Band Instruments to be Located

Gippsland Mercury 23 October 1914

Cr. Lyon asked that the President and committee of the Sale Borough Band be asked where the instruments were which had cost the borough a large sum of money; also if they were being used and if not used, requesting that they be handed over to the council as trustees. He understood the Mayor for the time being was the chairman of the trustees. The secretary should be written to. The town-clerk said he had been told the band had not got a secretary. It was decided the letter be addressed to Mr. J. E. Loder, the treasurer of the band.

The Defunct Band

Gippsland Mercury 20 November 1914

The Mayor, who had been appointed to ascertain what had become of the property of the Sale Borough Band reported that he had interviewed the trustees, who promised that if they could get the names of those who had instruments in their possession, they would endeavour to obtain them.

Cr. Overend: I understood they were all with the band.

The Mayor stated there were very few of the instruments with the band, and that the drum-major's uniform which had cost £12/10/- was at Maffra. He added that he had got about a dozen names of those who had instruments, and that he could say a lot more, but it was not worthwhile.

Cr. Fucher: You may have some thing to say later on.
The Mayor: Yes.

The matter was left in the hands of the Mayor.
